"Punch first. Ask questions while punching."
Riot Games has revealed more news about 2XKO, its free-to-play fighting game set in the League of Legends Runeterra universe, on Tuesday, July 22. After several months without major updates, the North American publisher returns with the announcement of Vi, a new playable character, as well as the release date of the closed beta. Players can now register for a chance to take part in the testing phase, which will begin on September 9.
The Zaun brawler is the latest character added to the fighting game's roster, which is expected to include ten champions at launch in 2025. Vi will already be playable at EVO (Evolution Championship Series) Los Angeles, the world’s biggest fighting game convention, which kicks off in just a few days. 2XKO will be present at the event — not yet as an esport — but via a booth where attendees will be able to try out the game and its unique 2v2 gameplay.
An awaited beta
In addition to the new playable character, Riot has announced that the game will enter a closed beta this fall, following Alpha Lab 1 during summer 2024 and Alpha Lab 2 in April. Scheduled for September 9, the beta will be automatically accessible to players who participated in the previous test phases. Newcomers will need to sign up on the official website and hope to be selected to gain access to 2XKO.
Initially, the beta will only be available on PC, with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X versions coming later. Riot also confirmed that 2XKO will be cross-platform, meaning you’ll be able to start playing on PC and then switch to console seamlessly, while keeping your progress and inventory.
