Kiin, Canyon, Chovy, Ruler and Duro will play together with Gen.G
Gen.G has unveiled a star-studded lineup for the 2025 LCK season, blending established champions with rising talent. After falling short at Worlds 2024 despite dominating Korea, the organisation retained toplaner Kim "Kiin" Gi-in, who led all LCK top laners in KDA and champion diversity last year, while adding legendary jungler Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu and reuniting with botlaner Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk, a former Gen.G cornerstone. Midlaner Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon, a four-time LCK champion with the team, remains the centrepiece alongside rookie support Joo "Duro" Min-kyu.
The Ruler Returns: A Strategic Game
Ruler’s homecoming marks a high-stakes shift for Gen.G. After two years with JD Gaming in China’s LPL, the 2017 world champion replaces rising ADC Kim "Peyz" Su-hwan, prioritizing experience over youth. Ruler’s multi-year contract, alongside Chovy’s extension through 2027, signals Gen.G’s commitment to securing an elusive international title. The move risks disrupting team synergy but offers unmatched late-game firepower, with Ruler boasting one of the highest career damage-per-minute stats among ADCs. This kind of strategic roster change mirrors decisions made in various competitive industries, including online gambling, where adapting to new challenges with experienced players can yield significant rewards.
Canyon’s Jungle Revolution
Canyon’s arrival from Dplus KIA injects versatility into Gen.G’s playbook. The two-time world champion (2020, 2023) is renowned for his aggressive pathing and adaptability, traits that could elevate Gen.G’s early-game dominance. His partnership with Chovy—a lane-priority specialist—creates a mid-jungle duo capable of outmanoeuvring even T1’s famed synergy. Analysts predict this pairing will define the LCK meta, particularly in the revamped triple round-robin format debuting in 2025.
Challenges and Expectations
Despite the roster’s pedigree, questions linger. Duro, promoted from BNK FearX, faces immense pressure replacing veteran support Yoo "Lehends" Jin-woo. Gen.G’s revised draft strategy—likely emphasising bot-centric compositions around Ruler—must also adapt to Riot’s 2025 gameplay changes, including item overhauls and objective tweaks. With Hanwha Life Esports acquiring T1’s "Zeus" and veteran jungler Han "Peanut" Wang-ho, the LCK’s competitive landscape has never been fiercer. For Gen.G, anything less than a Worlds 2025 finals appearance will be deemed a failure.
