After 18 defeats in a row, GX end their four-year losing streak against G2
This Saturday, G2 Esports fell 1-2 to GIANTX in a best-of-three series during the LEC Roadshow event in Madrid — a surprising result given the recent form of both teams. Beyond the upset, the match carries historic significance: it marks GIANTX’s first victory over G2 since Week 4 of the 2021 Summer Split. Back then, the team, competing under the EXCEL banner, managed a 1-0 win over G2 during the regular season. That G2 roster notably featured star AD Carry Martin "Rekkles" Larsson, while Rasmus "Caps" Winther is the only remaining player from this time.
The end of a 4-year losing streak
Since that match on Friday, July 2, 2021, EXCEL (now GIANTX) had consistently fallen to G2, losing 18 games in a row across regular seasons and playoffs. Despite a few close calls, such as taking two games off G2 during the 2023 Summer Playoffs before losing the series 2-3, they had never managed to close out a series win until now.
Summary of match results against G2:
- 2025 Winter Split: 0-2
- 2024 Finals: 0-2
- 2024 Summer Split: 0-1
- 2024 Spring Split: 0-1

As EXCEL (XL):

- 2022 Summer Split: 0-2

This latest win finally ends a nearly four-year drought for GIANTX against G2, and could signal a shift in momentum heading into the rest of the season.
