Guardy will be the first spanish player of the academy
Antonio "Guardy" Guardiola is the third name locked for KOI Academy's debut VCL Spain roster, per Sheep Esports sources. With Barça eSports, Guardy won the domestic title this year in Split 2, earning the right to represent Spain at the 2024 EMEA Ascension tournament. The team, however, went winless in their group and finished in 9th-10th place. KOI, as one of the biggest names in European esports, will hope to achieve more next year.
2025 will be the first season that Riot will permit VCT teams to field developmental academy rosters in the VCL — other notable organizations like Karmine Corp and Team Liquid will also field academy teams competing in the VCL circuit next year. If these rosters go to plan, they can provide teams with a pool of talent to draw from as they consider midseason and postseason changes to their VCT rosters. Alternatively, talented players could be transferred with buyouts to other organizations as they develop into VCT-level talents.
As KOI continues to finalize its VALORANT Academy roster, Sheep Esports will report on any decisions.
