Peter "Governor" No is officially back on the competitive VALORANT scene for Stage 3 of Challengers North America. After stepping away from competition due to persistent hand pain following a brief stint with Apeks, the North American player has found a new home with Winthrop Esports, a university team based in South Carolina.

Though the “university team” label might raise some eyebrows, Winthrop is no stranger to Tier 2 VALORANT as the team already competed in NA Challengers during the 2024 season. In 2022 and 2023, Winthrop primarily participated in college Tier 3 tournaments in North America. The 2024 season, however, marked a turning point: after several failed attempts at qualification, Winthrop finally broke through during Split 3, earning its first taste of Tier 2 — outside of the Mid-Season Cup.

From EMEA to Pacific — Governor Comes Full Circle Back to NA

In 2024, Governor began what turned into a globe-spanning journey. Departing from his home region of North America, he joined TALON Esports in the VCT Pacific League. This was his first try in Tier 1 competition, and TALON qualified for Champions based on circuit points, thanks to a 7th–9th place finish at Kickoff, a 5th–6th finish in Stage 1, and a strong 4th place showing in Stage 2. However, the run at Champions ended in disappointment, with the team bowing out in the group stage. Governor remained with TALON for the 2025 Kickoff before heading west for a new challenge: the EMEA region.

On March 19, 2025, Governor joined Apeks, fresh off their promotion to VCT EMEA after winning Ascension 2024. But his time in the EMEA league was short-lived. Apeks finished 11th–12th in Stage 1, prompting a round of roster changes—Governor among them. As previously mentioned, recurring hand pain played a major role in his decision to step away.

By joining Winthrop, Governor is making his return to North America, where he will be able to draw on a wealth of experience to try and improve the team's performance in the Challengers NA. Indeed, he has been present on the competitive scene since 2020, the year VALORANT was released. Having competed at the highest level, Governor is now back in Tier 2 competition for the first time since 2023, back when he was playing under the Turtle Troop banner.

With this addition to their roster, Winthrop are hoping to improve on their 5th-6th place in Stage 2 after starting the year with a good 3rd place finish in Stage 1. One big question looms ahead of Stage 3: Who will start? As the roster now includes six players with Philip “infiltrator” Nguyen, Justin “Jerk” Milani, Eishan “Nahsie” Jaffer, Gabriel “moobs” Powell, Andy “flare” Le, and Governor.
