"The removal of lane swap had some influence on our performance, and we didn’t adapt well to the new meta"
Top Esports falls to CTBC Flying Oyster, finishing the First Stand group stage with a 1-3 record. After the heartbreaking loss, jungler Seo "Kanavi" Jin-hyeok and midlaner Lin "Creme" Jian sat down for a press conference to discuss their issues with the meta, communication problems, and the level of competition at the tournament.
Kanavi, TES didn’t perform well. Do you think the removal of laneswap affected the team?
Seo "Kanavi" Jin-hyeok: "It may have affected our performance. We practiced a lot with laneswaps. It could have been a factor.
You mentioned communication issues in the team. It feels like that issue is still showing up. Why is it so hard to solve?
Kanavi: To be honest, I’m not sure what to say. I feel like we have so many issues, and we don’t know how to solve them for now.
Your team didn’t focus on Atakhan in either game. Why?
Kanavi: We were behind from the very early game, so it was hard to contest.
Creme, you've played against all the teams now. Do you feel like the gap in regional skill has closed?
Lin "Creme" Jian: Because all the participants are the top teams of each region, I don’t feel there’s a huge gap between regions at this event, at least.
Facing off against Tsai "HongQ" Ming-hong, a 17-year-old midlaner, what do you think about his performance? What didn’t go well?
Creme: I feel he definitely performed really well today. For me, I underperformed.
Top Esports had a great run in the LPL, but the team hasn’t shown the same level at First Stand. What changed? Did teams here surprise you?
Creme: What changed is the meta. The removal of lane swap had some influence on our performance, and we didn’t adapt well to the new meta."
